Mud Bogging A True Extreme Sport


Little boys and big boys alike love to play in thick sticky mud. A muddy pit, extreme four wheel drive cars, drivers and a judge are all that is needed to hold an official mud bogging event. Mud Bogging also know as mud racing or mud dragging. It is an off road motor sport that is popular in the United States and Canada.

Mud bogging events can be held year round in warmer climates and when weather permits in colder climates. Typically these events happen during the spring, summer and fall months. In the south they are year round events that draw crowds of people.

It is a true extreme sport with many Facebook pages and websites dedicated to the events and even more followers to read them. Mud bogging has been around since the the 1970′s starting out in the state of Louisiana and continues to grow in popularity. Mud bogging events are most popular in the southern part of the United States.

In order to enter a mud race there are a few things that are important to know when starting out. There are usually classes of cars that are entered into a race. These are divided by street legal four wheel drive cars and pro street four wheel drive cars. Each car is classified by the rules and it’s tire measurements.

For each mud race there are additional rules regarding the car, pit crew, entry fees, race course and drivers. Knowing the rules will be helpful in preparing ones car for a race. Each competitor in a race competes for a trophy and a purse.

It is possible to follow a circuit of mud racing. Often there are events close together in time and location that make it possible to enter multiple races within a short amount of time. People that enjoy racing their cars or mudders as they are often called, know of the racing opportunities that are available.

In a mud dragging race contestants compete by running vehicles through an extremely large muddy pit. The goal is to make it through this sloshy pit of mud and come out in one piece on the other end. Winners are declared when an altered extreme vehicle makes it through the mud pit. If multiple contestants make it through the muddy pit the one with the fastest time will be declared the winner.

The AMRA or America Mud Racing Association was established to represent mud racers everywhere. Mud racing is an up and coming extreme motor sport. The association works to educate others about this up and coming extreme sport and supports those that are developing a reputation in the sport. They also work to find sponsors and support current and new tracks by making sure they fan friendly and safe for events.
